How to switch it on (once, about 5 minutes)
  1. Google account → Security → turn on 2-Step Verification, then open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords and create an app password called "Melton rentals". Copy the 16 letters.
  2. Vercel → project melton-rentals → Settings → Environment Variables. Add GMAIL_USER (your Gmail address), GMAIL_APP_PASSWORD (the 16 letters) and SEND_KEY (any passphrase you make up).
  3. Vercel → Deployments → the top one → ⋯ → Redeploy, so the settings take effect.
  4. Type the same SEND_KEY in the box above and press Save. The status above turns green.
Applications then go straight from your Gmail to the agency (copy to you, replies come to you) and show in your Gmail Sent folder. Without this, Apply still fills everything in and hands it to your email app or share sheet to press Send.
Good to know. Every adult who will live there may be asked to complete their own copy of the form. The agent must tell you which tenancy databases they check. They can't ask about past disputes or bond claims, or for bank statements with transaction detail. Bond and rent in advance are each capped at one month's rent. Rent must be advertised at a fixed amount and rental bidding is illegal. Consumer Affairs Victoria: consumer.vic.gov.au/applying, 1300 55 81 81.
